Making Camp Memories

Sam's SD Card 387

Located in beautiful Oregonia, Ohio, The Salvation Army’s Camp SWONEKY (Swo-neck-ee) has been a summer highlight for area youth for 50 years. For many, it’s the first opportunity to experience the wonders and beauty of nature in a camp setting. The camp’s innovative programming provides much more than simply a change of scenery. Opportunities for growth — physical, social, educational and spiritual — abound. ¬†Each summer, close to 200 children from the Central Ohio community attend Camp Swoneky and experience horse back riding, fishing, Bible study, swimming and a myriad of camp activities.

Each year, the children who attend camp have the opportunity to write a letter to thank those who make their visit to the camp possible. Here is a sampling of their comments:

“Thank you so much for having me here at camp learning about Jesus and God. It’s been a great experience being here because I’ve learned so much that I didn’t know and I prayed and now I feel clean. I’ve met new friends that might be my best friends now, well at least one of them are!

Sincerely, Lashe’ M.

“Hi my name is Maddie. I like all of my counselors and I’ve made a lot of friends. I liked all of the things we did but the best thing was when I rode a horse and that was my 1st¬†time. Thank you for allowing me to come to camp.’

“Thank you for paying all of the costs for me, my brother and my sister to get to this wonderful camp. I hope I can come back for the rest of my life.”

Thank you for letting me come here. I loved making friends. I can’t wait 2 come back again. I love everyone here! Can’t wait 2 come back here!”

Your friend, Destiny J.
